Amsterdam Museum

City History Gem

Set on the site of a 15th-century convent, this museum is devoted to sharing Amsterdam’s story with its visitors, looking at the past, present and future. The permanent, interactive exhibition - Amsterdam DNA - gives visitors an overview of the city’s history. The chronological display is punctuated by fascinating exhibits such as ancient shoes and an antique carillon, as well as exhibits telling the tale of local characters like Bet van Beeren, the late owner of one of Amsterdam’s first gay bars, Café Het Mandje.
