The first HEMA store opened nearly a 100 years ago - in 1926. Set up by the directors of the luxury department store De Bijenkorf, HEMA offered basic goods at affordable prices. Today you will find HEMA in every Dutch city. It has become synonymous with Dutch basics and recently opened stores in Paris, London, Madrid and Luxembourg. Besides its no-nonsense approach to design, HEMA is also famous for its smoked sausage. "Rookworst" is freshly cooked at nearly every location; served with or without bread, mayo, or mustard. Another famous HEMA speciality is the tompouce, a variation on the mille-feuille. Step in and try it!
